Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.
The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.
The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
It is the player's initial championship following the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since spring of 2023.
The win also means he has secured 21 victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"For the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle previously this season.
Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to doubt if his ability to compete at the top level was concluded.
Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an improved serving game.
The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.
Both players swapped break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to force a decider.
The opponent rescued 4 initial break points in a competitive final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.
Fittingly, the winner secured victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
